Ecotourism
Vacationers looking for a more distinctive
travel experience will be able to uncover an authentic eco-adventure
to the heart of Mexico’s natural and cultural attractions.
Mexico is home to almost every kind of ecological habitat on Earth,
making it one of the most unique destinations in the world for
travelers interested in the outdoors. Through these adventures,
tourists will be able to discover some of the country’s
most distinctive regions.
In terms of environmental travel, body-shaking
adventure and cultural pursuits, the state of Veracruz offers
more than you could possibly see in one visit. Lying along the
Gulf of Mexico, it possesses beaches, reefs, lagoons, valleys
and rain forests. Veracruz has more than 40 rivers and is one
of Mexico’s wettest regions, which makes it a favorite of
white water enthusiasts. It is also home to the snow and ice covered
mountain, Pico de Orizaba, which reaches high into the sky and
is a favorite destination of mountain climbers.
The state of San Luis Potosi offers up
exciting activities without limits where waterfalls and rivers
cater to the adrenaline junkie seeking wild adventure. From whitewater
to rappelling, there is something for everyone in this region
of Mexico. A trip to the region would not be complete without
a visit to the cave of Sotano de las Golondrinas, a subterranean
cavern that reaches more than 500 meters down into the earth and
is the world’s sixth largest and deepest subterranean abyss.
The state of Oaxaca, also known as the “Land of the Sun,”
is a large state filled with mountains, lakes and miles of unbelievable
Pacific coastline. The small town of Mazunte is famous for its
sea turtles and is home to the Mexican National Turtle Center,
a laboratory and aquarium dedicated to the study and protection
of these animals. Chacagua Lagoon National Park, also located
along the coast, is comprised of a series of lagoons and beaches
between the towns of Santiago Jamiltepec and Puerto Escondido.
The state of Michoacan is a tropical and
semi-humid region ideal for agriculture. The state contains both
hundreds of miles of Pacific coastline as well as coniferous forests.
Among its most spectacular sites is the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary,
where the orange and black butterflies of North America spend
each winter. Each fall one of the most spectacular migrations
in the world takes place as millions of monarch butterflies fly
south from forests in Canada and the United States to winter in
this sanctuary in central Mexico.
